Selecting the Right Program in the UK

Making plans for higher education involves big decisions. And these decisions greatly influence your whole future.  To select the right program, follow the below mentioned steps:

Explore and Decide

Decide what you want to study at a University or college. Keep in mind also how a curse of study might affect your career plan. Ask family, professionals or advisors about the various courses and their prospects. Go online and search about courses. Attend a university or college open day. It is one of the best ways to find out if it’s good for you. During an open day, you can talk to staff or students, look around various sections of the university, like library, sports centre, accommodation areas etc.

Choose your Study Options

Select your course of study, location and study mode (full time or part-time). Check the entry requirements for the course you want to apply for.

Undergraduate Level

It includes foundation degree courses, diploma of higher education degree courses and Bachelor’s degree. For undergraduate courses of study you need to have achieved further education qualifications such as A-levels, International Baccalaureate (IB), Scottish Highers, or equivalent qualifications from your country in related subjects.

Post-graduate Level

It includes Master’s, MBA, PhD/doctorates. The basic entry criterion for postgraduate courses is you will need to have a first or Bachelor's degree of a good standard. For doctoral, you need to hold a Master’s degree in addition to the Bachelor’s degree.

English Language Requirements

Students whose first language is English or are nationals of a majority English-speaking country are admitted without an English qualification.
If English is not your first language, it is indispensable that your English language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) are good enough for you to take on an intensive academic course that is taught and examined in English. Therefore, you may be required to submit the scores of one of the formal qualifications, i.e. IELTS or TOEFL IBT. Different universities require different test scores.

Apply to Accredited Universities and Colleges

Visit their respective websites and know more about the accreditation-whether they are ‘recognised body’ or ‘listed body’.

Apply for Student Finance and Visa

Check if you’re eligible for credit and accordingly apply for funds. Read the visa details carefully. Apply on time and maintain your documents beforehand only.
