Accreditation Agencies for Higher Education in UK

UK is known for its high quality higher education. There are 100 universities in the UK that are allowed to award a wide variety of degrees to students and these universities are recognised by the UK authorities. These are known as ‘recognised bodies’. There are as well several hundred colleges and other institutions which do not possess degree-awarding powers but offer complete courses that are validated by institutions having degree-granting powers, thereby, leading to recognised UK degrees. These are identified as ‘listed bodies’.

The Department for Education maintains a list of all recognised and listed bodies, and 'recognised awards' which are awarded by bodies that hold very specific degree granting powers.

All UK universities and some higher education colleges are ‘recognised bodies’. To know about the Universities recognised by UK Authorities, visit "Recognised Bodies"

To know about the Institutions referred as “listed Bodies”, visit  "Listed Bodies" .

The higher education accrediting agencies are:

Quality Assurance Agency (QAA)

All UK universities and other degree-awarding bodies (recognised bodies), whether publicly funded or not, undergo review by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). Universities and their courses are individually evaluated by QAA. QAA conducts peer-review based audits and subject-based reviews of higher education institutions. The correctness and adequacy of quality-related information published by the higher education institutions is also reviewed.

British Accreditation Council (BAC)
