HAT: History Admissions Test
The History Admissions Test (HAT) is a subject-specific admission tests used by University of Oxford to assess the applicants desiring to study undergraduate degree courses in History at the University of Oxford and its joint schools. HAT is administered by the Admission Testing Service in collaboration with the University of Oxford.

The History Admissions Test (HAT) is a 2 hour paper-based test and comprises of two sections.
Section One
This section comprises three questions and is worth 60/100 scores:
- Definition Exercise: It involves understanding and defining of terms drawn from the text. This part is worth 10/100 marks
- Explanation Exercise: It involves analyses and explanation of terms drawn from the text. This part is worth 20/100 marks
- Essay Exercise: It involves applying a concept or hypothesis from the text to a historical situation and writing clearly and coherently at length. This part is worth 30/100 marks
Duration: 70-75 minutes
Section Two
This section contains one question and is worth 40/100 scores
- Interpretation Exercise: It involves careful reading and interpretation of text.
Duration: 45-50 minutes
